JustFaith - Engaging Spirituality

This module is being offered beginning this fall during the daytime.

Engaging Spirituality:

Engaging spirituality invites faithful adults to break open their lives, penetrate the realities of our times, and explore the intersection between Christian spirituality and Gospel justice.  Participants focus on the practical challenges of following Jesus, engaging in contemplation while immersing themselves in the heart of our fragmented world.

Engaging Spirituality includes these unique dimensions:

  ·   It is an accessible, practical, and communal process.

·   It introduces seekers to a breadth of contemporary and ancient wisdom.

·   It invites people to engage current social realities from their hearts.

·   Rooted in the Catholic experience, it promotes a “grounded spirituality” for living the Gospel in these times.

All around this blessed-broken world there is a great hunger for Justice.

In these complex and troubling times there is a deep thirst for Wisdom.

And everywhere people are looking for Integrity.

By Engaging Spirituality we seek to be rooted in love, grounded in justice, and find our bearings in order to follow Jesus with integrity today.

Engaging Spirituality is a small group process for 8-12 participants

21 weekly (2 ½ hour) sessions.

2 retreats, 2 immersion experiences, journal-keeping, prayerful dialogue, spiritual reading.

Engaging Spirituality will be offered at St. Edward in the fall.  Please prayerfully consider taking this journey.  For more information, please call Mary.

JustFaith - Prison Reform: Church of the Second Chance

Prison Reform: The Church of the Second Chance

This module was designed and written by Jens Soering, someone on the “inside,” and does not try to soften the gritty truth of prison reality.  Soering introduces the “radical” Christian principle of restorative justice, points out the critical need for comprehensive prison reform, and provides a strong critique of the U.S. prison system.  At the same time, he focuses throughout the module on the power of centering prayer and the Christian messages of reconciliation and redemption.  This six session module, while focusing on the factual background for prison reform, is grounded in a deep spirituality and sense of humanity.  It highlights interviews with long-term inmates and ministers from the “outside.”

St. Edward will offer this in the fall;  please prayerfully consider participating.  Call or email Mary Kelley for details.

JustFaith

JustFaith is a thirty-week justice formation process with a focus on poverty.  Meeting weekly, groups employ books, videos, lecture, discussion, prayer, retreats and hands-on experiences.  The intent is to provide a tapestry of learning opportunities that emphasize and enliven the remarkable justice tradition of the Church.

Participants are exposed to not only a substantive and demanding course of study but are also afforded the privilege of becoming community with other participants and sharing a journey of faith and compassion that is both life-giving and challenging.

The thirty week program typically begins in the fall and runs through to spring.

JustFaith is facilitated by parishioners.  Many of our parishioner have participated in the program and have found it life-changing.  Please contact Mary Kelley for more information.
