There are many ways in which you can assist homeless shelter residents.
Meatloaves & Brownies are delivered on a regular basis to Freedom House (Conrad Center). You can help by baking these items. Please bring frozen (double wrapped) meatloaves and brownies to the church freezer or to the Parish Center any weekday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
FREEDOM HOUSEis an umbrella under which several ministries to the homeless are covered. The mission of Freedom House it to embrace those in need and welcome them into a stable and supportive environment where self sufficiency and independence may be achieved. Through your generosity we are able to support Freedom House financially as well as providing meals. The following operate under the auspices of Freedom House:
Hull Street Shelter – this shelter offers transitional housing for 40 residents who are in the process of regaining their independence through counseling, job training etc. We provide evening meals at the Hull Street shelter 5 evenings a month. Our parishioners prepare, deliver, and serve the meal on those evenings. The time commitment for delivery and serving is approximately 2 hours. If you wish to become involved by cooking only, that is another option.
Conrad Center provides breakfast and dinner each day to Richmond’s homeless and working poor. We provide meatloaves and brownies for dinner one evening a month. Volunteers may participate in this ministry by baking meatloaves and brownies and bringing them double wrapped and frozen to the church freezer on the weekend or the Parish Center kitchen Mon-Fri 9-4. The meal is delivered on the morning of the first Wednesday of each month.
MEN’S EMERGENCY SHELTER operates basically the same as the Hull Street Shelter and our volunteers provide 2 evening meals a month for the group who are housed there.
