Bishops' Statement

Our efforts to . . . serve the poor and vulnerable must be accompanied by concrete efforts to address the causes of human suffering and injustice. We are called to transform our hearts and our social structures to renew the face of the earth . . . We cannot celebrate a faith we do not practice. We cannot proclaim a gospel we do not live.

Human Concerns, Justice & Peace

Our Mission is to enable our parishioners to fulfill the Gospel call to love of neighbor and the church's call to action on behalf of justice.  The Human Concerns Ministry assesses and responds to the needs of the deprived, disabled, neglected and opposed in our parish, our community, and the world.  We promote legislative advocacy, peacemaking and other efforts to change social structures.  We help to raise parishioner's awareness regarding the social dimension of the gospel, and enable them to witness to their convictions by participating in service activities.

St. Edward Outreach

A very special thank you to those who contribute to St. Edward Outreach (the Human Concerns green envelope) Your kindness and support affects the lives of many people…..

  • Financial Assistance— The majority of donations to Outreach assists individuals and families who find themselves in a temporary emergency crisis situation.
  • Parishioners are given emergency financial assistance as needed. All instances of aid are completely confidential.
  • Non-parishioners are screened by outside social workers, who then work with us for help in assistance. (An example is an 80-year old woman had her water cut off for over six months. St. Edward, along with other churches and organizations, helped reestablish her water supply).
  • Haiti — St. Edward assists our twin parish, Holy Family.
  • Waverly — Each month your donations of non-perishable food items are sent to the Waverly Community. St. Edward assists in the purchasing of perishable items.

…’What ever you do to the least of my
brothers and sisters, you do unto me’
Matthew 25:40
