FIRST RECONCILIATION & FIRST EUCHARIST

Classes for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist begin in January. Letters will be mailed to registered family members who have children eligible to prepare for First Eucharist and Reconciliation in December. Complete and return the registration form to the Christian Formation Office along with the $35 fee and a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate (if your child was not baptized at St. Edward Church).

PLEASE NOTE: We offer two options for First Eucharist celebration:

1) Group celebrations will take place at the Church on a weekend in the Spring.  The exact dates will be announced in December 2009.  Due to seating limitations, families are limited to10 seats including the candidate. Families are served on a first come, first served basis.

2) Families also have the option of celebrating First Eucharist at one of our parish weekend liturgies during the Easter season.  Guest seating is unlimited at the Sunday liturgy celebrations with maximum of six families for each weekend liturgy.

♦    Sign up is required for any of the above liturgy options.  Please call the Office to express your intentions.

♦
We need to know how many people including the candidate will be attending the liturgy. An accurate seating count is needed. Please do not reserve extra seating so that we can accommodate all families.

♦    We also would like to invite families to participate in various liturgical ministries within the large group liturgies.

PREPARATION FOR SPRING 2009

The registration form will be available in early December 2009 for the classes beginning in 2010.

The diocese requires a year of Religious Education through a Catholic school, parish program or home school curriculum immediately prior to the year a child prepares for the sacrament.  To receive First Eucharist in the spring of your child's 2nd grade year, they must participate in Religious Ed for both 1st and 2nd grades.  Of course, it is recommended that children continue formation in their faith through regular Mass attendance and Religious Education classes through all grades.

The letters are mailed in early December.  If you do not receive a letter, registration materials will be available at the first session at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2010.  If you have any questions, please email peggy.byers@stedwardch.org or call 864-4714.
