High School Youth Ministry

Life Teen is a movement of high school teens in 9th-12th grade and encompasses all Youth Ministry we do at St. Edward. Our primary goal is to lead teens towards Christ. Life Teen is community that explores the faith, challenges each other, and has a whole lot of fun in an environment that is safe, nonjudgmental, and welcoming.

Life Teen strengthens our teens' Catholic identity, while rooting them firmly in Christ and in His Church. All teens are welcome. Life Teen is not an exclusive group and it is not just for Catholic Teens.

High School Youth Ministry activities are open to students in grades 9-12. Want to receive our weekly high school youth ministry email? Have a question or an idea for something to do? Please contact Andrew McCarthy (youth minister) at (804) 864-4715 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Weekly Activities:

  • Religious Education (September – May)
    • Life Nights: (Sundays from 6:30-8pm in the Gym & Church, 9th-12th grade teens with dinner from 6-6:30pm) Following the 5:00pm Mass, we gather as a community to learn about the faith and grow deeper in our relationship with God. We meet in a non-classroom format that is both engaging and relevant to teens. We do this through games, dynamic talks, small group, prayer experiences, and much more! Registration link will be available soon.

  • High School Youth Group (Wednesdays from 6:30-8pm in the Bosco Center) Youth Group meets every Wednesday throughout the year. We focus our ministry on community, prayer, and service - so we do everything from movie nights, messy games, faith debates, and make meatloaves and brownies for a local soup kitchen. Youth Group is a drop-in program, so no registration is required. All teens are welcome.

Monthly Activities:

  • XLT Adoration (Last Wednesday of the month, 7-8pm in the Church) XLT is short for Exalt and is a time of Eucharistic Adoration and Praise & Worship. Each night starts with a teen witness followed by a period of adoration, praise & worship and confessions. We usually go to Gelati Celesti after as well, if the weather is nice!

The goal of high school youth group is for the teens of our parish to take ownership of their faith in a safe & encouraging environment. Through outreach, discussion, games, and prayer, our teens inspire each other to “turn the Jesus high into a Jesus lifestyle.” Our hope is that high school youth group creates a culture of love and compassion that finds itself constantly rooted in Christ, the firm foundation of our lives.
